It is my experience that goals are more achievable when measurable objectives are set--it's the plan and steps that take one from 'point A' to 'point B', if you will.
The following are a few of the objectives that I plan to initiate so that I can meet the goals I have for expanding my knowledge base on the many issues and concerns of our District so that I may make informed decisions.
Identification of Critical, Primary and Secondary Needs
First and foremost I would like to travel the District in order to identify the critical, primary, and secondary needs as determined by community leaders and municipal officials.
Local Volunteer Advisory Committee
I have always been one who could quickly say that I don't know--and never will know--everything! One of the ways I have been successful in past ventures is by surrounding myself with area experts on a wide range of topics and knowledge bases. If elected to this position, I plan to do the same thing!
Select an active advisory committee of local volunteers with interests in and knowledge of a variety of areas including small business, industry, economic development, education, local government, tourism, agriculture, natural resources, small and large municipalities, and more.
This local volunteer advisory committee would meet regularly with me throughout the year to discuss bills being filed, lobbying efforts and other hot topics being discussed at the local and State level. This would ensure that different perspectives are shared, and that no decisions would be made before getting feedback from those who would be impacted.
Participation in Existing Discussions
In the recent weeks of getting out and talking with community leaders, I've become aware of a number of issues and concerns that exist in areas from the north end to the south end of District 10. Many of these I'd already been aware of; however I've been honored to learn of others that are very community-specific. I believe it would be my duty, as your State Representative, to have a good understanding of such concerns; and for that purpose I plan to inject myself into as many meetings and discussions as possible. Such would include...
WebsterParish SchoolBoard Meetings
Webster Parish Tourism Meetings
Dorcheat Scenic Byway Meetings
LakeBistineauEnvironmental Action Committee
Webster Parish Police Jury Meetings
City Council and Town Hall Meetings
Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development groups
Haynesville Shale Task Force
Cultural Crossroads of Minden, Inc.
Springhill Art League
Town Hall Meetings
I would like to Host Bi-annual Town Hall Meetings in each end of the District to discuss ongoing projects and hear from community members.
State Superintendent of Education
I will always strongly advocate and lobby for new policy to ensure that our future State Superintendents of Education have a strong and proven educational background, which I believe is imperative to their ability to lead our State's educational system.
Action Committee for Economic Development
I would like to establish a local volunteer action committee to work hand-in-hand with local Chambers of Commerce and existing industrial boards and economic development groups to enhance their efforts to recruit business and industry to our District. I would hope that together we could formulate criteria checklists for potential business recruitment. I simply believe in strength in numbers, and organized efforts...and the way to do this is to recruit interested people willing to volunteer their time, roll up their sleeves and pitch in.
I would be happy to lead efforts to organize District-wide strategies based on identified needs and plans of municipalities and parish government that will address future planning for priority infrastructure and system development. I believe that teaming up to talk and organize our efforts will help to ensure efficiency and cohesive plan-execution, and will reduce duplication of efforts.
